When my friends and I heard about wing night at The Hyde Park Hotel, we were there in a heartbeat. Actually, a heartbeat almost seems inaccurate.
We didn’t really even need to think about it. We just had to be there, and there are at least several reasons that come to mind which explain why we were so quick to get in on the action:
- We love pub food. Especially when it’s cheap. And tasty.
- The Hydey (sorry, The Hyde Park Hotel) holds a special place in our hearts, developed over too many drinks, on too many late nights between 2004 – 2008.
- Chicken wings. Because, chicken wings.
The Just Wing It menu is simple -
First
You can choose from a half kilo of wings for $10, or a full kilo for $15.
Second
Choose your side dip – ranch or blue cheese, perfect for dunking your supplied celery sticks, wings and the odd finger or two.
Half a kilo of wings with Hydey BBQ sauce
Then pick your sauce
- Hydey BBQ
- spicy
- suicide
- or, if you’re feeling it, you can also opt for your wings naked!
If you’re like me, and have trouble choosing, you can add one additional sauce to your order for only $1 extra, or opt for all three for an extra $5!
J and I shared a kilo of wings with all three sauces – we both really enjoyed double dipping between the BBQ and spicy sauces!
Optional extras
Add jalapenos to your wings for $2.00, or a side salad for $2.50.
My friend A ordered a side salad to go with her BBQ wings, and she was more than happy to share. But she had to withdraw her offer due to lack of interest.
This was partly due to the fact that J, T and I were much too distracted by onion rings and fries to be distracted by greenery…
My friend T was one very happy camper! We call this the wing grin. A frequent sight on Thursday nights at The Hydey, I imagine.
Except maybe from anyone crazy enough to take the Just Wing It Challenge – where you’ve got 15 minutes to devour a kilo of wings doused liberally in suicide sauce. No drinks or serviettes are allowed. But if you finish it, your meal is free!

lol!
Also, love the Wing Grin
Going!! Penned it in, can’t wait!! How spicy is the spicy sauce? I get kinda tired of things being labelled spicy and then eating it and there is no heat all all. Hmf. Hope this one has some kick!
There’s definitely some heat in the regular spicy sauce!
It’s not insane, but it’s definitely there.
Hope you like it!
